I've written 9 local history books and counting. It all started with 10 pages of family history notes my uncle gave me in 1994. I planned to type the notes for him and give them back. I soon realized I found my calling, writing and uncovering the secrets of the past. I became inspired by the noble efforts of the early residents. The cooperation between early citizens was vital to the success and growth of the area. I have continued writing, gathering pictures, maps and documents. There is a lot of education in our past and preserving it helps us learn about our connections.

bulletI had a BOOK SIGNING AT DODGER STADIUM on Sunday, July 1 - Ventura County Day at Dodger Stadium. We had 1500 county residents in the lower reserve section and several hundred more family and friends spread throughout the stadium. For those of you who missed the game, you view some pictures taken by Bob Glatt, who was my personal Dodger photographer for the day. For those of you who were there, you can purchase your favorite pics from Bob's web site link:

bulletThanks to former major leaguers  Brent Cookson, Jeff Tackett and Jerry Willard for joining me for the opening ceremonies.
bulletI also write the "History Beet" for the new Oxnard monthly magazine, The Sugar Beet Press. The free publication offers the "good news" that is so often neglected in today's media.
bulletI've started my third baseball book, Mr. Brewers Boys. I am working with Dan Pierce, one of the players from the the 1960s team out of Los Angeles that featured a dozen major leaguers including: Bobby Tolan, Bob Watson, Willie Crawford, Reggie Smith, Dave Nelson, Dock Ellis, Bobby Darwin and more. The team also featured super-agent of the 90s, Dennis Gilbert. The team was led by Negro League legend, Chet Brewer.
bulletAlso! I have formed a nonprofit organization with Gary Blum and Eric Daily to oversee the development a pre-1900 farm park . The Oxnard Historic Farm Park Foundation was set up to develop approximately 1-acre near Brekke School, near  the corner of Cesar Chavez Blvd. and Piņata Drive,  that will include renovating two  - 1870's structures on the site; a 1900's carriage house and a replica of the Colonia School House. We went to the City Council on July 17, 2007 and our operating agreement was approved. Casey Beyer from John Laing Homes presented us with a check for $75,000 and now we can go forward with the renovations at the site. We will need your help in raising the money necessary to make this a first class operation.

Tina Sanchez from the Pleasant Valley Historical Society shares a story about her friend, Rosa Lopez McLoughlin, who's picture appears on the cover of the Camarillo book. Thanks to the Camarillo Acorn for the coverage.
